Having a large family myself (2 teenage boys and a pre-school daughter), I know how difficult it can be to find a large enough home for your large family. Working from home as I do just complicates the matter because you also need an office space.

Over the past few years, it seems like most homes in an affordable range for average people, have diminished so much in size and just do not offer a large family a place to call home. Due to rising material and labor costs, builders are really pushing the size down on homes in order to keep them in a relatively affordable price range. There are a handful of subdivisions that have larger, 4 bedroom homes in their packages.

Adams Homes probably leads the way with number of plans to choose from in their standard plan book, followed closely by DSLD. Although DSLD does not built “spec homes” in this size, they are a reasonable builder that finish construction quickly. While there are numerous subdivisions to choose from, you may also want to consider the idea of finding a lot/land outside of a subdivision to build on. I have builders that do great work and start around $80 a square foot.

Audubon Lake is a quiet, nestled community just outside of the city limits of Gulfport, MS on Hwy 53. This subdivision is in the process of being developed now and is currently plotted for roughly 90 home sites.

The subdivision is located in close proximity to Canal Rd., Harrison County Fairgrounds, and is only a few minutes to Hwy 49.

The growth area for Gulfport is north of I-10 and this is close enough to be in town in a few minutes but just far enough out to be peaceful (and save some money on city taxes)

For the investors out there, the developer has set aside a handful of lots just for you! With the Go-Zone tax incentives and the second round of the SRAP (small rental assistance program, it would be possible to create a pretty nice investment out of some of these homes as well.
