While I have always been more partial to salt or brackish water (larger bodies of water and better fishing), I can enjoy fishing for bass or bream off of any of the beautifully maintained lakes in South Mississippi.

Lakefront living is a great way to enjoy the water without as much threat from flooding of hurricanes, etc. Living on any of the south Mississippi lakes is just as serene as living on an open bayou, typically with less gnats. There are many great lakes to choose from including Adam’s Lake (Windance, Lake Village Estates), Swan Lake Estates, Robinwood, McGill Lake, Rogers Lake/Silver Run, Landon Lake, and many more.

A home on the lake is offers many of the same enjoyments as other waterfront properties, but you do have to be careful that your needs are met. For instance, some lakes do not allow gas-powered boats so if you wanted to utilize your lakefront home for skiing or getting across the lake fast, you may want to make sure.

The Mississippi Coast is not on short supply of waterfront homes. While many prefer to live on salt or brackish water, there is still a certain comfort to living on a lake. Lakefront homes offer a little more security during hurricanes while still offering the serenity of living on the water. Of course, there is always the added bonus of snagging that 10-pound large-mouth bass on 6 pound test that really makes you feel good.

There are several lakefront communities on the coast. Some of the more inland ones are Robinwood Forest, Rogers Lake/Silver Run, and McGill Lake. While there are many more, these are the more typical searched in the Hwy 49 corridor.

All of these communities have reasonably priced homes and offer nearby shopping and dining. Silver Run and Rogers lakes are a great place to get away from it all. Two large lakes located outside of Perkinston, about 15 minutes to the Wiggins Walmart, are a great place to call home or a weekend retreat.

This quaint community is about 30 minutes from shopping and dining central at Gulfport (I-10 and Hwy 49), half that distance to Wiggins, and yet has the feeling of being completely secluded.

With two 100 acre lakes, there is sure to be something to do for any water enthusiast. While Rogers Lake is primarily a fishing lake (only electric motored boats allowed), Silver Run Lake offers water-skiing and more. Both lakes offer great fishing with bream, crappie, large-mouth bass, and catfish. Large-mouth bass in excess of 10 pounds are not uncommon.

Several of the homes on these lakes are used as getaways from New Orleans, and even the coast during hurricanes. Serene living with amenities close by.

The homes start in the $150k range and go up to over $400k. Styles range from cabin-homes to Aztec and each offer all the amenities of modern comfort that you would expect in any newer home.
