For all of those who enjoy activities that are water related, south Mississippi is a paradise. The large back bay waterways of Biloxi and Bay St. Louis are river and gulf fed estuarian environments of capturable beauty. The back bays are home to a diverse ecosystem of fish, birds and other wildlife that all make photography a fun, enjoyable and rewarding pastime. If fishing is your forte, you will find yourself chasing schools of speckled trout and red fish along shores of wavering saw grass lined with sprawling oaks draped in Spanish moss. You’ll have a great time catching flounder, jack, mackerel and shark among many other species of fish. You will also have the opportunity to learn how to throw a cast net and catch shrimp. During the fall season shrimp school in the back bays and provide an opportunity for coast residents to fill their own freezers with them. Another great resource of the back bays are crabs. Crabbing is a great deal of fun and its pretty easy. You can dip them up in nets as you spot them, or you can tie on a chicken neck to some line and drop it in. You check the line every 5 minutes or so for extra weight and when you feel something pull it on up and scoop with your net from behind the crab. You’ve gotta be quick! Fresh boiled blue crabs are the best tasting crab anywhere in the world!
For those who enjoy lazy days boating or kayaking the back bays are an incredible resource. There is so much to do here in the calm water environment that adds to quality of life and maximizes your real estate living. The serenity itself is worth more than I can explain.
Out of state residents who enjoy water activities and are interested in condo-living on the back bays don’t have to look further than Anatole Bay of Biloxi or Harbor Landing of Ocean Springs. These two waterfront condo developments are the only two of their kind and include boat slips at no additional charge to the resident. The back bays have direct access to the Gulf of Mexico where just a few miles off the coast sit the barrier islands. These islands are a tropical oasis away from the coast where you’ll find crystal clear water, beautiful white sand beaches, and much more oceanic wave action on the north side of the islands. You can visit these islands by charter and also by ferry. Ship Island Excursions operates out of Gulfport Harbor.
